Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the completion of Indian gaming agreements with the Quechan Tribe of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation and the Yurok Tribe.

The agreements provide a fair contribution of revenues to the state, provide protections to patrons and employees, and ensure that local communities will be protected and receive compensation to mitigate off-reservation and environmental impacts.

"I welcome the willingness of the Yurok and Quechan tribes to sit down and successfully negotiate these agreements," said Governor Schwarzenegger.

In a March 8 referendum, Broward voters approved slot machines at four venues: Dania Jai-Alai, Gulfstream Park, Pompano Park harness track and Hollywood Greyhound Track. Taxes levied on the slots are intended to go to schools in statewide, shared among Florida's 67 counties.

U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair's government cut the number of Las Vegas-style supercasinos to be allowed in its gambling bill from eight to one, in a accord to get the measure passed before the May 5 general election.
