The numbers for Pennsylvania’s first slots parlor have been revealed. According to the Mohegan Sun officials, in only one week punters spent $39.3 million playing on the slot machines. The operators of the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs received these numbers with surprise since nobody knew what to expect.
The machines paid out an average of 90 cents per dollar, which means gamblers have won back $35.3 million. Meanwhile, the State Department of Revenue informed that the slot machines have generated $1.4 million for property tax relief, $163,000 for local government, $204,000 for economic development and $490,000 for the state’s horse racing industry.
Pursuant to Pennsylvania tax laws, the government takes 55 percent of the money kept by slot machines.
