Pocono Downs slots casino to open in November

The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs announced this week that it will start business on November 14th. It will be the first one of five racetracks that were awarded casino licenses by the state gambling authorities last month.

“I think there's a feeling not only of relief but excitement that we're able to move forward and we have an actual opening date that is not too far off,” Pocono Downs chief executive officer Robert Soper said.

The Mohegan Indian Tribe of Connecticut, which owns and operates the Pocono Downs racetrack, invested $70 million on the complex. It includes two gambling floors with 1,083 slot machines, a restaurant and a patio.

More than 400 people were hired to work at the casino and there are plans to expand the complex and add shops, a nightclub and double the number of slot machines.
